According to Mr. Ray Topping, Director of Fiatech, “Any technology is only effective if it gets built into your work processes and your people deploy it.” Indeed, that’s how the success of any technology is measured.

CCT’s Business Consulting Manager, Chehade Kassouf, explains in the video below how companies waste time by employing an army of draftsmen to do the same job previously done by the designer, hence repeating the cycle all over again. Consequently, this increases exponentially the construction project cost. In the past ten years, the construction industry started to shift towards Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) and Workface Planning (WFP) which require a set of information as a prerequisite.

Through the collaboration between various stake holders including owners, designer, contractors, vendors and academics as part of the Piping Information Flow (PIF) project, CCT lead the effort where all project member agreed to ask Intergraph to modify the piping component file (PCF) format to include the standardized set of information produced by the PIF project. The new format will be named “Super PCF”.

Having all the stakeholders involved in the project, mainly software vendors and industry users, is yet another important aspect that pumped into the project years of hand-on experience in the engineering, procurement and construction capital project.

Above all, contractors will no longer need to make assumptions since PIF will provide them with standard data verified by the ISO 15926 community about their daily operation and seamless transferring such data into operation and maintenance teams.
